DenyHosts (1)
ssh (1)

How can I stop my IP address getting added to hosts.deny?

I get this error: sh_exchange_identification: Connection closed by remote host trying to connect with SSH. On the server, my IP address keeps getting automatically added to the /etc/hosts.deny file. How can I make this stop?

A number of things can auto-update hosts.deny. I had a problem with DenyHosts running as a daemon and doing it. Removing the IP from hosts.deny did not help. There is a directory, generally /var/lib/denyhosts that also has files in it that can affect you. I removed my IP from all those in which it appeared (maybe overkill, but didn't have the time or feel like going and learning how DenyHosts works and what they are all for). I then restarted the daemon (/etc/init.d/denyhosts restart).

This seems to have resolved the issue.
